further to my previous post where i mentioned the vote-based reputation
system of stack overflow...

one reason it's good, and why the strictly q&a aspect of the site works -
speaking for myself, it's difficult to not want ++rep;

it works both ways - your question won't be ignored because other people
want to increase their rep too by willingly providing answers.

being ignored is one thing which bothers me about other sites, and mailing
lists.

the reputation system encourages people to write answers but the dark side
of it - getting voted down can be ummmmm difficult to bear when you're
tired and should have gone to bed ;-) it's especially annoying having your
answer voted down without explanation despite people being encouraged to
write a comment as explaination of negative-vote.

i dare say some people on here would hate such a rating system for
art+discussion. i think it might be an interesting experiment if it were
handled correctly....

hang on, is this what deviant-art does?????
