Call for artists' submissions: FLI Residency, Northwest England

Leading digital arts agency folly  and Lanternhouse are delighted to announce a 
new call for artists' residency proposals as part of their successful FLI 
scheme.

The FLI Residencies offer support to artists working with new technologies to 
develop their ideas and extend their practice, with a particular emphasis on 
participatory activity.

The programme meets a real need for artists to have access to the high quality 
discourse and enriching creative environments that Lanternhouse and folly 
provide. Based in Ulverston, on the edge of the Lake District National Park, 
resident artists are able to devote time and space to their practice, engaging 
collaboratively with the host organisations and a rich tapestry of local 
communities, artists and creatives in the Northwest of England. Details of

In 2010 one exceptional applicant will be offered a residency period of 2-3 
months. This opportunity will be of particular interest to an artist who is 
naturally collaborative, seeking time and space to develop new works, research 
innovative ideas and deliver some truly participative activity.

folly and Lanternhouse will offer:
 * living and working accommodation for up to 3 months at the unique 
Lanternhouse building in Ulverston, Cumbria
 * over 60 years of artistic and curatorial expertise in the areas of 
digital/new media art and participatory practices
 * opportunities to engage in the broader digital arts offer in England's 
Northwest and to access unique digital arts networks and skill-sets
 * opportunities to work with the Lanternhouse team to create participative 
offers for the community
 * access to a community of artists through both host organisations' broader 
programmes of work and residencies

The chosen artist will be expected to:
 * adopt or develop collaborative approaches to process and practice during 
their residency
 * engage in artistic and curatorial dialogue with folly and Lanternhouse staff 
in the development of their ideas and activities
 * engage with other residents at Lanternhouse, local and regional communities 
during their stay and take advantage of opportunities for critical and artistic 
discourse and exchange of ideas 
 * share ideas and works-in-progress using the residency scheme's web presence 
and through presentations to audiences
 * engage and involve people and communities in their practice, and ensure 
there is a high quality participatory offer built into the work
 * demonstrate an understanding of potential audiences for the work created 
during the residency

£2000 GBP is available to cover expenses and support the artist during their 
residency.

Shortlisted artists will be invited to interview during the week commencing 
12th July 2010. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will be in 
residence autumn/winter 2010.
