issues are a. o. locative strategies and tools for urban play,
potentials and problems of participatory formats and
collaborative/distributed/networked game development. Participants are
not only invited to present and discuss their own projects, but to
collaborate on the development of a game(-level) located in
Duisburg-Ruhrort. A public lecture-presentation by the workshop leaders
is followed by closed workshop-sessions for applied participants; game
sessions will be open to the public.

Artists, researchers and other people with professional interest and
background in game design, game studies and related fields are invited
to hand in a short statement (“letter of interest”, ca. 1.000 - max.
2.500 characters) and a brief C.V. with contact data (e-mail, phone, URL

Hackteria Workshop
Workshop
Andy Gracie (gb/es) & Marc Dusseiller (ch)
Volkshochschule Dortmund, S 139a
Mon 23 August 2010, 10:00–15:00h
Tue 24 & Thur 26 August 2010, 10:00–16:30h
Fee EUR 10
The workshop will be held in English.

A primary aim of the workshop activities is to demonstrate that
scientific/artistic experimentation can take place within the DIY and
open source domains, and that biology and custom electronics can be
friends. Participants will become aware of the diversity of
microorganisms in the urban environment and learn where to look for them
and how to build apparatus for extracting them. After sourcing and
isolating microorganisms we then develop open hardware and software
environments with which these organisms can be both viewed and become
the subjects for simple interactions. A central focus of the activities
will be the hacking of webcams to build DIY video microscopes.

Experimental Electronics Workshop
Workshop
Antti Ahonen (fi), Harri Vähänissi (fi), Olli Suorlahti (fi)
Mon 23 August 2010, 10:00–15:00h
Tue 24 August 2010, 10:00–16:30h
Tue 24 August 2010, 22:00h presentation at domicil
Volkshochschule Dortmund, L 109
The workshop will be held in English.

In the workshop we will search for artistic ways to re-use old consumer
electronics. We try out different methods to take control of existing
hardware with simple tools. We will bend, hack and experiment together
with anything we can get our hands on.

No prior experience with electronics needed, the workshop is open just
to drop by or stay longer as you please. Do bring your old electronics
if you have some.

This project is part of a Pixelache Special Feature at ISEA2010 RUHR,

Swiss Mechatronic Art Society (SGMK)
Workshop
Speaker: Markus Haselbach (ch).
Christoph Stähli (ch), Tobias Hoffmann (de/ch), Urs Gaudenz (ch) & Dr.
Marc Dusseiller (ch)
Volkshochschule Dortmund, L 109
Thur 26 & Fri 27 August 2010, 10:00–16:30h
The workshop will be held in English.

The idea is to introduce the general public into the act of creation in
electronic art. Next to our simple “classic“ synthesizer noise-toy we
also build the 1x_pixel, which allows an insight into interactive visual
arts: The circuit controls a single RGB LED through an audio frequency
filter attached to a small microphone. By this, the participant can
build a little interactive toy that reacts to the pitch of the voice and
displays the full range of colours inside of a pingpong ball. The
BitBadge is even more simple and uses a DIY method of reflow-soldering
to make a cute little LED badge with a customizable light pattern.

No registration needed, anybody can just join in and participate. A
small budget will be needed for workshop materials.

This Workshop is supported by Migros Kulturprozent.
