Chess For CCTV Operators
Performance in the surveillance space of Essen, August 2010
Video 15'37''

For "Chess for CCTV Operators" !Mediengruppe Bitnik is in Essen for
three days in order to challenge CCTV Operators to a chess game. For
this purpose they trace surveillance signals, hijack them and replace
them with their own video signal, the chessboard. Thus the surveillance
monitor in the control room is taken over and turned into a game console.

With their invitation to play !Mediengruppe Bitnik breaks the power
structure of the surveillance situation - a subtle performance for a
single and specifically selected recipient.

Mit der Ausstellung «Too Big To Fail / Too Small To Succeed», die
