Session 9: ‘Digital Archiving and Unlibraries’

Programme of events

Thursday 28th October 2010, 9.30am - 3.30pm

Free Word Centre, 60 Farringdon Road, London, EC1R 3GA

We are very happy to announce the following speakers for our upcoming
session on 'Digital Archiving and Unlibraries':

1. Variable Media Network, Jon Ippolito
2. The Hornsey Unlibrary, Chris Meade
3. The UK Soundmap (British Library), Chris Clark
4. FACT, Heather Corcoran

The afternoon workshop will be run by Mike Peel, Director of the
Wikimedia UK chapter. Across the globe, Wikimedia projects are the
largest, most consulted and most accessible information sources
available. Wikimedia’s goal is to create a freely available and freely
reusable source of knowledge. This knowledge however, can only be truly
useful if it is developed from reliable primary and secondary sources.
The extensive expertise and collections held within galleries,
libraries, museums and archives are those sources.

Mike will introduce chapter's recent efforts to engage in such
partnerships with cultural organisations across the country, building
long term relationships and developing audiences who play a vital role
in the archiving process. He will also give a short workshop in how you
can contribute to Wikipedia to increase your organisation's visibility
and helping to develop a picture of its contextual environment.
