CDMC in Paris & SoundTrack in Cologne. Saturday 6/11 talk around Sound Walks in Paris for the CDMC
During the symposium “musical creation and gardens #2” organised by the CDMC (Documentation Center for Contemporary Music) at Bercy’s parc, talk in collaboration with Caroline Coll, director of the contenporary art center Abbaye de Maubuisson, around the creation of : Sound Walk “Remants or the foundation of Cyberecology”. The Sound Walks are hybrid projects, somewhere between graphic, sound and documentary creations, giving a reading of a territory through its inhabitants, through soundscape and human ecology. Each participant is invited to follow a route with the help of an MP3 walkman and a map specially designed for each project. The encounters, organised as surveys, are cast in the form of interviews; The Walks lead from one point to another and from one person to another. They last approximatively 3 hours, including 1h20 of listening to sound creations and interviews. In the Contamines-Montjoie valley, in Haute Savoie, snow groomers have little by little replaced the hay wagons. Within half a century, the winter tourist industry has transformed the life of the inhabitants; now that the white gold mine is wearing out, feelings are contradictory, and something like bitterness is beginning to be acknowledged. How can we view the invisible ties that link men to their land? “Miage”, a documentary-opera, with the presence of a string quartet and a band of Alphorns, illustrates this attachment. This ecological fable is accompanied by music to draw an original portrait of a highland territory undergoing deep change.
