hi netbehaviourists,
a strange & extremely annoying thing happened yesterday: the company
that i use for domain registration (& have used without problem for at
least 10 years) seems to have vanished.

my domains are still working - except for domains that are
forwarding/pointing to another url. & the really annoying thing about
this is that it affects http://www.make-shift.net, which is the site for
the networked performance we are premiering on sunday. everything for
the performance is still working fine, the web site is still accessible
by the direct address (http://www.creative-catalyst.com/make-shift/) &
luckily we haven't sent out the final email reminder for people so we
can put in that address. but we also have an email address which is
forwarding, & this is now not working, which is also a problem as we ask
people to email us after the show.

the domain company is http://discountdomainregistry.com/ & their site is
completely down. i've been emailing their support & getting no reply.
i've looked back thru emails from them dating back 10 years & there is
never any phone number of physical address information, just links to
the web site :( all i've been able to find on the web is that they are
registered as a company in new york, but i can't find a phone number or
any other way to contact them :(

is there anyone else out there who uses this company? anyone with any
ideas how i can find a phone number for them?
(http://www.yellowpages.com/ can't find it)

& what other companies do people recommend? obviously i'm going to
switch companies (i have about 10 domains registered with them, some on
behalf of other people/projects) but i don't think i can do this before
sunday (i'm also teaching a workshop the next 3 days & rehearsing!)

does anyone have any experience in domain transferal? is it possible to
do it without being able to contact the company that currently hosts the
domain??

h : (
