Many consumer and prosumer cameras are now using Flash memory. My own main
camera uses HD tape but I've a little Flip that I use a lot more, for daily
stuff - lovely little thing. No tape. Almost no controls. Point and shoot.
Just plug the camera straight into the computer (no cable) and it all
transfers automatically into my preferred editing environment.
