If when you say 'another operating system' you mean 'a different linux
flavour' you might wish to try Arch Linux.

That is, if you wish to dig deeper and learn more (and perhaps get
less done ;-) ).

For instance, installation won't get you an a desktop environment.
You'll have to choose which one you want and then set it up.
