LOL, Simon!! As my online gamers teenagers say I am laughing out loudly!!
You are describing the Swedish government policy since they grabbed the
power in the elections 2006. And they have been relected now, in the last
elections held 2010.
Everything is being privatised here, the schools are being outsourced to
private entrepreneurs making obscene winnings with taxmoney. The last of the
stately owned enterprises was going to be sold out recently but the
opposition stopped the selling at the Parlament with the vote of an ultra
nationalist fascistoid party, newly arrived to the political scene in
Sweden.
But to be honest the selling of the state owned patrimony and the cuts on
pensions and welfare began already with the Socialdemocrats in power. Their
government had a clear newliberal policy, not so flaggrant as this one but
also a betrayal of their voters. That's one of the reasons they lost the
power 2006, the people wanted punish them and their arrogancy.
Families with children and elderly people are really losers here but also
people over 50 years, unemployed and with a minimun of social support every
month.
The Swedish "Folkhem", the People's House is crumbling very fast. I come to
Sweden as political refugee 32 years ago, at that time I could not choose, I
was in jail in Uruguay and the United Nations offered me asylum in Norway,
the UK or Sweden.
It was Sweden who acted more quickly and I landed here. It was another
society, more open, there was an atmosphere of solidarity and concern, the
workers organizations were strong and the left and the socialdemocracy had a
kind of alliance.
But since Olof Palme was murdered the kind of leaders chosen by the
socialdemocrats turned the party to the right and the cuts and the feeling
of the party becoming a "bourgeois" party was overwhelming.
Today the socialdemocrats has lost their role as the biggest party in Sweden
and they have a severe identity crisis. They chose a new leader this weekend
but he is not going to be able to control the damages.
They should need a younger generation not tainted by the power.
