I think this is a good way of exploring the idea that digital networks make obvious some of the things that can often be hidden from us normally. I've quoted this bit in an essay I have to write as part of my personal development program on my DTLLS course (DTLLS is a further education qualification). It sets the tone nicely and led me to think about many of the values we place on traditional methods of understanding how people 'learn' and engage with knowledge. Slightly out of context from the email discussion but it worked right.
