On Saturday 17 September 2011 SoSLUG (http://wiki.soslug.org/) is
hosting Software Freedom Day (http://softwarefreedomday.org/) in 3
locations in Southend on Sea to promote Free and Open Source Software.
They are currently looking for volunteers who might be interested in
providing information on FOSS to the general public and running some
promotional and demonstrative workshops on Free Software in terms of
Audio, Video, Game and Office applications along with media projects
that might endorse the potential of free software. They will be relying
on the wider network of Linux User Groups and Artist friends to help use
the opportunity to provide solid information and support for software
alternatives to commercial proprietary applications.
The Software Freedom Day will take place at TAP (Temporary Art Project)
on Sat 17 Sep between 10am and 8pm. The full address is:

In addition there will be a SFD promotional stall at The Royals Shopping
Centre on the High Street as well as a shop in Chartwell Square that
will be used as a demonstrations & tutorials platform and collection
point for redundant laptops for the Southend pilot of the Zero Dollar
Laptop project (http://zdlp.soslug.org <http://zdlp.soslug.org/>) which
is currently being developed by SoSLUG in partnership with Digital
Exploration Centre, Southend YMCA and Furtherfield.
