Digital Media & Fabrication Faculty - Call for Applications The Florida State 
University, Department of Art

The Department of Art at the Florida State University (FSU) seeks applicants 
for an Assistant Professor in Digital Media & Fabrication with an emphasis in 
3D. This is a tenure-track position with a 3/2 teaching load.

QUALIFICATIONS: MFA or equivalent in the visual arts, an emerging or 
established recognition in the fields of digital media/sculpture, clear record 
of excellence in teaching and strong communication skills, and an understanding 
of a wide array of curricular and artistic methodologies.

Candidates will have a commitment to sustained investigation of intellectual 
issues in contemporary art, primary artistic research in digital media, 
computing, 3-dimensional art forms, and their integration into studio art and 
design. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working across disciplines and 
encompassing broader approaches to art practice and teaching.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate will have responsibilities in research/creative 
activity, teaching and service. Teaching includes graduate and undergraduate 
courses which address concepts and practices in both digital media and 
3-dimensional forms such as: 3D modeling, various aspects of rapid 
proto-typing, and digital fabrication, installation, sculpture, public art, 
kinetic art, video and time-based media, interactive media, and others.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS: The Department of Art offers undergraduate programs 
(BA, BFA) in Studio Art, a BFA in Design, and a 3-year MFA in Studio Art. Our 
programs encourage interdisciplinary freedom through open inquiry across a wide 
range of emerging and traditional art practices, while also offering 
concentrations in digital media, painting and drawing, photography, 
printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Both BFA and MFA programs provide students 
large personal studios and a plethora of exhibition spaces.

FSU is a public, fully accredited, coeducational research institution with the 
Carnegie Foundation’s highest designation, Doctoral/Research 
University-Extensive, with strong support for faculty research and exhibition 
and is committed to fostering an academic community of excellence. Faculty 
grants offer up to $18,000 to first-year faculty. Collaboration amongst faculty 
and across departments is highly encouraged through grants and special 
facilities like our new facility for Fine Arts Research(FAR), Master Craftsman 
Program, and other cross-department specialized facilities.

RANK AND SALARY: Tenure-track Assistant Professor, 9-month appointment. Salary

Digital Foundations and 3/D – Florida State University, Department of Art

The Department of Art at Florida State University invites applications for a 
full-time non-tenure track faculty position to begin in August 2012. We seek a 
dedicated teacher with expertise in digital foundations plus skills in 3D. The 
teaching load is 3/3 for the academic year: two courses in foundations each 
term and one course in a 3D studio area (sculpture and / or ceramics). Ten 
additional hours a week will be devoted to administrative support to the 
foundations area. MFA degree required. Teaching experience is desired beyond a 
graduate teaching assistantship.

The successful candidate will be skilled in a range of digital art, design 
tools and online technologies. Applicants must exhibit strong writing and 
speaking skills and a teaching attitude that displays a commitment to 
energizing students within an interdisciplinary environment.
