Downtime (post-domestic fiction)

http://www.frowntails.com/downtime.html

Downtime refers to the period of time during which a system remains
unavailable or fails to provide or perform its primary function.

Downtime (post-domestic fiction) is an installation to be exhibited at
Frown Tails project space. The installation is about the representation
of a system consisting of vintage electric appliances.
Through hacking practices the system attempts to redefine appliances’
initial identities. By adjusting the objects towards different uses,
their impairment is defined not as an outcome, but as an opportunity to
review their functional capabilities.

Through the active participation of the viewer, the objects are examined
within a new context, in terms of how these are kept active and
accessible by its reuse and manipulation.

Downtime (post-domestic fiction) exhibition is the outcome of the Damn
Lab: Creative Coding and New Media workshop, which took place at Frown
Tails and was instructed by Marinos Koutsomichalis and curated by Maria
Varela.

Participating artists: Ioanna Agelopoulou, Nefeli Georgakopoulou,
Veroniki Korakidou, Marinos Koutsomichalis, Antonis Lyras, Afroditi
Psarra, Maria Varela.
