A show at Nottingham playhouse assembled by curatorial duo 'The Cutting Room'
(Clare Harris and Jennifer Ross). Showcasing artists who explore the crossovers
between the virtual and physical worlds with pieces in virtual realms,
telematic film sets, game systems and interactive environments. The works begin

Dual

5 September – 30 October

The idea of multiple identities has become common place in modern life as
digital technologies now allow for the creation of alter egos that give rise to
new online cultures. Dual showcases artists who explore the crossovers between
the virtual and physical worlds we inhabit with pieces that offer portals into
virtual realms, telematic film sets, game systems and interactive environments.
Their works begin to question the use of modern digital devices and how they
enable us to transform and interact within these hybrid spaces.

Dual sees the launch of Deconstructed Metaverse. This is a new commission by
Michael Takeo Magruder, Drew Baker and Erik Fleming and will link the
Playhouse’s top floor with a seemingly boundless ‘living’ virtual realm which
is wholly contained within a single microchip.

Get involved and confront your own avatar in an enchanted forest in Mirror on
the Screen by Paul Sermon and Charlotte Gould. This has been created using the
online world of Second Life.

Track your own skeletal movements with Brendan Oliver’s Particulation in the
CAST bar and see your movements projected as particles within the space.

The exhibition also includes Sigma 6, a film by Kim Stewart (UK) an emerging
artist from the World Event Young Artists 10 day international festival.
