Confessions of an A/V Geek. By Monty Cantsin. http://www.furtherfield.org/features/interviews/confessions-av-geek
Earlier this month Elsheimer corresponded with Montgomery Cantsin (a fledgling archivist currently attempting to digitize 20,000 feet of 16MM) to discuss his experiences and knowledge in this area. Some 20 years ago, Skip Elsheimer stumbled upon a lot of 500 films which he managed to purchase for a mere $50. And thus A/V Geeks, his Raleigh-based archiving club, was born. By now their massive 16MM stash is among the most impressive non-institutional collections in America--containing about as many titles as the George Eastman House (though not as many as Stephen Parr in San Francisco). Elsheimer now provides digitization services to clients such as Duke University and North Carolina State University, and has traveled around the country sharing gems (and stinkers) from his stacks. Montgomery Cantsin is an emerging Brooklyn-based intermedia artist. Cantsin's visual collage work is currently included in the Hayward Touring group show "Outrageous Fortune," while Cantsin's audio collage work has recently appeared online at HTML Giant. Also a 16MM film freak, Cantsin has worked as a researcher for such found-footage filmmakers Craig Baldwin, Bill Morrison, and Ben Rivers. Cantsin currently makes GIFs for the Berlin-based group Network Awesome. -- ---> A living - breathing - thriving networked neighbourhood - proud of free culture - claiming it with others ;) Other reviews, articles, interviews http://www.furtherfield.org/reviews.php Furtherfield – online arts community, platforms for creating, viewing, discussing and learning about experimental practices at the intersections of art, technology and social change. http://www.furtherfield.org Furtherfield Gallery – Finsbury Park (London). http://www.furtherfield.org/gallery Netbehaviour - Networked Artists List Community. http://www.netbehaviour.org http://identi.ca/furtherfield http://twitter.com/furtherfield _______________________________________________ NetBehaviour mailing list [email protected] http://www.netbehaviour.org/mailman/listinfo/netbehaviour
