Total Recall (1990) presents an escapist fantasy of political rebellion
directly implanted into a worker's mind. Whether one sees a "proper
uprising" in this or the suppression of its actual possibility depends
on whether one looks at the spectacle of the politics or at the
operation of the technology.

Snowden's leaks began in May. Ars will have begun production some time
before then.

And with apologies to the Cyberpunk Manifesto, it is carefully worded
treaties and awesome military capability that gives America its
geopolitical position in the world, not false consciousness caused by
the illusion of information hegemony.
