Hi
yesterday some striking staff ( for two hours, although our management are
deducting a whole day's pay) at Writtle College called a little student/staff
teach-in for the duration of the strike ( this was a nationwide strike over pay
but it is being fuelledin many palces, including Writtle, by redundancies,
cut-back, speed up and a philosophy that sees education as entirely
instrumental and entirely numbers/money driven). It was small - infant steps -
but great. We had a brilliant discussion for an hour around what education is
and could be and about the difficulties & challenges both financial and
educational teachers and students have in common and then we spent the second
hour drawing.
You can see the results here:

We'd ask you
    * please take a look, and if you have a Flickr account favourite &/ comment
    * if you have contact with students/teachers please draw their attention to
this and ask them also to favourite/comment
Any such activity would be a huge morale boost to both groups ( we're not only
facing a fight over pay here but in many ways for both the existence and soul
of education )

warmest wishes
michael
