Hi yesterday some striking staff ( for two hours, although our management are deducting a whole day's pay) at Writtle College called a little student/staff teach-in for the duration of the strike ( this was a nationwide strike over pay but it is being fuelledin many palces, including Writtle, by redundancies, cut-back, speed up and a philosophy that sees education as entirely instrumental and entirely numbers/money driven). It was small - infant steps - but great. We had a brilliant discussion for an hour around what education is and could be and about the difficulties & challenges both financial and educational teachers and students have in common and then we spent the second hour drawing.
