NEW Gen NOW is a series of talks and events exploring networked feminism The White Building.
Taking its cue from the cult cyberfeminist group VNS Matrix’s seminal computer game title All New Gen, NEW Gen NOW seeks to uncover cyberfeminist strategies in the current cultural sphere and beyond.
Through a year long programme of talks, events and public discussions at The White Building, NEW Gen NOW will trace and interrogate cyberfeminism’s multiple histories and contemporary narratives.
From its emergence in the 1990s with the heroic figures of Haraway, Plant, Wilding, and Fernandez declaring their mission to take the “first steps in contesting technologically complex territories that have been over coded to a mythic degree as a male domain”, cyberfeminst agendas and practices have now morphed and splintered in the era of distributed cultural production and networked society. What are the new rules of the gender game and where is the agency in cyberdiscourse now? These are the questions NEW Gen NOW seeks to address and provoke.
