This is inspirational. For those of you who read my last post, there are
times in which I have become dispirited with the current state of media art
and the theory surrounding it, and have detached a little to have a life
with a possible family, knowing that my stamp is on media art history, and
wishing to take a little more time with the humane side of life that I
pretty much gave up working all of you for the last 25 years.

This does not mean I have stopped. Hardly, it just means that I feel like my
missives are a bit more deliberate and coming from the headspace that Marc
describes.

Best,

Patrick

Subject: [NetBehaviour] My Soul Mates...

Futherfield over the years has taken an awful lot of my own personal time
and energy, away from my own art practice. However, for the last six years I
have managed to squeeze in a regular three days a week to re-educate myself
and this has evolved and helped me in my writing and artistic ideas.

I remember about 20 odd years ago when watching a documentary about Noam
Chomsky, how impressive it was to see him without fail, read the latest news
and information on what's going on in the world, before the start of his
day. Since then, I have tried my best to do something similar. So, my day
consists of going out on my bike very early in the morning. I get news
papers and buy a coffee and make notes, and then cycle a bit more pondering
about things. Then, when I get home I read snippets from a couple of books
which may be troubling my mind, so I can get around an idea of what a writer
may be saying. Then, I begin the day fuelled with some ideas - whether it be
a Furtherfield day or a writing day.

There is an argument that we need to re-occupy our own imaginations in
contrast to the overwhelming onslaught of consumer based tedium that
contemporary life suffocates us with. For me, it is essential to reclaim and
recode my mind on my own terms, as well as meeting others who are also
interested in doing this, which inspires me - it brings about a life that
breaths a revolutionary zeal consisting of self-education and social
emancipation and radical knowledge. I am interested in meeting and growing
with these types of people whatever class, race or gender, for they are my
soul mates.

wishing my soul mates well.
