Description
*The role*
We wish to appoint a Digital Storyteller in Residence to work with
children and young people and their teachers between July and December
2014. This will involve:
* Working with us to develop and run a one-week summer course for 8-13
year olds which will explore different ways of using IT to capture
and communicate character.
* Running sessions with pupils and twilight INSETs with teachers in 3
local primary schools to explore ways of using IT to create and
start to animate story characters.
* Identifying people from local games, software and web design
companies who would be interested in volunteering.
* Identifying digital professionals with training experience who would
be interested in running taster sessions and courses for young
people and their teachers.
* Testing drop-in sessions, a games night and the potential for an
ongoing young digital storytellers group.
* Keeping a diary of lessons learned and contributing to shared
learning events and reports this Autumn.
*Person specification*
The successful candidate will have:
* Good knowledge of child-friendly animation, photomanipulation, film,
audio and basic programming software s (Scratch, Minecraft etc)
* Teaching or training experience, especially with teachers and young
people.
* Knowledge of local games, software and web developers and the
ability to build collaborative working relationships.
* Suitability to work with minors and vulnerable adults including
relevant formal checks.
* Ability to work in the Oxford area.
* An interest in children's literature and storytelling

We will:
* work with you to plan, promote, deliver and document this project
* provide you with a workspace as needed, as well as training spaces
* provide training support for the courses and INSETS
* provide volunteer research and support where possible
* buy or hire necessary software and equipment within the project budget
* host a social event for digital professionals.
