I'm sure I will enjoy the album, but I just wanted to say thanks for posting
the visual mixes - the actual event was a bit fraught as I didn't have any
sound ( today was the first time I heard what was going on soundwise) so I just
concentrated on a formal, slow unfolding of the visuals I'd prepared. It's
exciting to see and hear it working ( it does for me anyway) together...thanks
to all concernedmichael

Subject: [NetBehaviour] Ethernet Orchestra Debut Album Release
Hi All,
I thought I would draw your attention to the release of our debut album
'Diaspora', released through the Chilean net label Pueblo Nuevo today.
It contains contains a diverse selection of networked improvisations by
musicians from equally diverse cultures and musical traditions. It can be
streamed and downloaded with full colour sleeve from
http://www.pueblonuevo.cl/pn_site/index_pn094.htm
I have also archived the VisitorsStudio performances that Helen Varley
Jamieson, Neil Jenkins, Graziano Milano and Michael Szpakowski have performed
with Ethernet Orchestra over the years. These can be viewed from
https://diasporasound.wordpress.com/vjmixes/
Musical vignettes from many of these performances have been edited into the
album.
I hope you enjoy it and we welcome all feedback and comments.
Best wishes
Roger

*New Book Explores Live Performance on the Internet*
/A new book exploring the field of cyberformance - live performance
events that connect remote participants via the internet - offers a
variety of perspectives on this multi-disciplinary live art form. /
/*CyPosium - the book*/presents selected material from the CyPosium, a
one-day online symposium organised in October 2012 to discuss
cyberformance. Artists from a range of backgrounds have experimented
in this field for as long as they have had access to the internet, and
the CyPosium sought to remember and celebrate some of this ephemeral
and pioneering work.
The 12-hour event consisted of online presentations and facilitated
discussions, and attracted an audience from around the world who
engaged in a lively, vibrant real-time conversation. /*CyPosium - the
book*/continues and expands on this discussion by presenting texts,
chat log excerpts, discussion transcripts, edited email conversations,
creative chat excerpt essays and illustrations from the event, along
with responses to the event.
This book will be of interest to practitioners, students and
researchers of digital and online arts. While its focus is live
performance, the contributors hail from a wide range of practice both
online and offline, and their writing illustrates the hybrid nature of
contemporary arts involving digital technologies. Music, dance,
poetry, sound art and the visual arts all feature, as well as
entertainment and social practices such as computer games, virtual
worlds and online dating. Common themes that emerged during the
CyPosium are also present in the book, such as the changing role of
the audience; intimacy in the online environment; and mortality. This
breadth of form and content reflects the ever-increasing ubiquity of
the internet and digital technologies in our daily lives as well as
our arts practices.

The book* Possible Futures: art, museums and digital archives* is dedicated
to the discussion of preserving digital memory and culture, bringing
together internationally renowned experts of the field of conservation of
digital art, collections digitization, database politics and aesthetics. It
is published by Editora Peir?polis and Edusp and it is available in
paperback and ebook editions.
The result of a seminar held at the University of S?o Paulo in 2012, the
work edited by Giselle Beiguelman and Ana Gon?alves Magalh?es has articles
written by a team of international experts addressing issues from the
preservation of natively digital art to conservation processes of digitized
collections, through the aesthetics that emerge from the databases to the
new political and cultural complexity that arises with the era of ?amateur
archivists? and large ?memorizer corporations?, such as Google and Facebook.
