Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market: 9 - 10 May 2015, Amsterdam

After being held in Tokyo, Berlin and Brussels, the Internet Yami-ichi /
Black Market is coming to the Vlaams Cultuurhuis de Brakke Grond in
Amsterdam on the 9th and 10th of May. The Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market
is a physical marketplace for Internet-related products and performances.

Open call: Looking for organisations, artists, designers and other
Internet-savvies who want to book a booth at the Internet Yami-ichi / Black
Market.

—What is Yami-ichi?
The Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market is a flea market for “Internet-ish”
things. Both flea markets and the Internet are chaotic mixtures of the
amazing and the useless, the precious and the grotesque. The distinct
worlds of the flea market and the Internet will merge at theInternet
Yami-ichi / Black Market.

The Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market celebrates the Internet in all its
glory at the buzzing setting of a flea market. The cultural miracle we call
the Internet crawls away from behind the glaring screen and drags along our
so very dear memes, trolls, cats and glitches as well as the Web’s most
obscure details to the booths. Artists, designers and other netizens are
selling their wares at the Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market.

*The Japanese word "Yami-Ichi" translates directly to the English "black
market”. Due to an emphasis created by mixing different Japanese writing
systems the word "yami” also takes on the double meaning of "sick for" /
"addicted to”, providing an alternative translation “A Market for the
Internet Obsessed”.

Market in Amsterdam is also open for other kinds of physical projects. Just
ask!

The Internet Yami-ichi / Black Market in Amsterdam will attract an estimate
of at least 2000 visitors. There will be guided tours through the market
seen as manifested Web. The Internet Food Market will offer snacks to make
you feel at home, like the ‘Apple Genius Bar (apple booth)’ and a booth
trading in ‘Cookies’.

Apart from just browsing the market for little gems, the Internet Yami-ichi
/ Black Market in Amsterdam will also function as meet-up for
organisations, artists, designers and anyone else active in
Internet-related art and culture. So, haggle, deal, chat with your
competition, like and add new friends AFK (Away From Keyboard).

__Turn off, log-out and drop in
Amongst dutch artists, designers and other netizens, many organisations
dealing with digital culture and art academies will participate. In
addition international project spaces, Internet artists, hackers and
designers will also be present bringing their goodies. We are looking for
an international chaotic mix of the ‘Cream of the Crop’, outsiders,
spectacular innovators and total nonsense.
