...and at sxsw closing Bruce Sterling had talked about curating a 3D printed house. "I 3D printed my own house!" Then this pops up on Vimeo: "The 3D Additivist Manifesto" strangely relevant to the conversations here, and much of what Sterling had to say. They had abandoned all notions of the conventional body or race or species, instead heading foot-long into bio-reconstruction. Van Dongen's work, as well as much of Alan's work, expresses a kind of re-engagement of the body in fashion, dance, digital technology- even 3D printing. But my question is not about plastic, or even printing. My question is about the body. Do we intend to keep it? The reason I ask, a lot of conflict is framed as inequality, and a lot of the discussion about equality is based on a certain consistency of what it is to be human. If we start mucking around with that... well, then we have a very different kind of conversation.
