@Michael ‹‹‹ " I *didn¹t* make it for an exhibition; I made it as a
contribution to dialogue, to exchange and to play.²

These words ring like music. I personally think that traditional exhibitions
are overrated, because they so often put the emphasis on the finished
object. But art is never finished and for me it only begins once the
dialogue is catalyzed by the work. This was one of the original ideas of the
NetArtizens project, to LINK the work to the dialogue (or vice-versa),
inseparable as I believe they are.

Out of the great outpouring of work on this list, as well as the NetArtizens
Open Online Exhibition <http://0p3nr3p0.net/show/netartizens/> on
0p3nr3p0.net, we will channel the dialogue into the symposium next week,
particularly during the last session on Thursday, April 2, 4:00 pm 5:30 pm
Singapore time (subtract 7 hours in the UK). Marc and Ruth and I have been
planning this session and will be referencing conversation and work that has
been presented on this list. I hope you all join us online to continue our
NetArtizens conversation: in real-time.

Subject: [NetBehaviour] archive of work

I¹m assembling a list of links , in the form of edited versions of my
original posts to work I¹ve made & posted to Netbehaviour during the
³NetArtizens² project. I will post this back to the list and then a copy of
that post will form my submission to the online exhibition. I want to
emphasise the, for me, necessary connection between the list, my
relationships (or otherwise) with those on it & the making of this work. I
*didn¹t* make it for an exhibition; I made it as a contribution to dialogue,
to exchange and to play. I also want to underline my use of the Yahoo owned
Flickr as a space to place work whatever demerits it has it has provided
me with a second very congenial and lively community of co-makers and
thinkers ( and I particularly love there the shading across participants
from full time artists to those who would not in a million years describe
themselves as artists and yet make the most stimulating and often stunning
work.)
Back to NetArtizens : It¹s been fun; I¹ve learned from it & I¹ve made a
couple of new friends. What more could you ask?

Using David Gasi's splendid "reductions" of my netartizens portraits and
with a generative sound piece on the side.
The sound takes a little while to get going properly ( and you might have to
ensure your browser both has and allows the shockwave plug-in)
The music uses a database of loops culled from a wax cylinder recording
from 1909 of Ole Bull's "Solitude of the Shepherdess" performed by the
American String Quartet

forced musical participation of alan sondheim
I took a beautiful low clarinet improvisation by Alan and improvised a
duet/accompaniment to it live, recording the performance.
I then overdubbed his original ( just to make sure it was clear enough) .
For me it feels like it works...I'm not sure....
It felt great to do :)

gif cinema // NetArtizens

This sort of fits into the NetArtizens thing, I think - it a piece which
works with material from the 1950s and from my younger self in the nineties,
as well as giving a respectful nod to one of the most thoughtful early net
artists, Eryk Salvaggio..
