   Description

Deadline: 10am on 13 July

D-Lab is an exciting new project, supported by Arts Council England through the National Lottery, Derbyshire County Council and Arts Derbyshire. It aims to bring the best and most exciting new media artists and artworks to an online audience, focussing especially on artists and organisations in Derbyshire and the East Midlands.

We want to encourage artists to make more and better use of digital media in their creative practice, to take risks and experiment, and to showcase their work to an online audience.

Junction Arts is a participatory arts organisation based in the East Midlands and is a commissioning partner of D-Lab. We have been delivering in the Bolsover district for close to 40 years. Our primary aim is to increase and extend access to high quality arts through inspirational innovative participatory arts programmes and projects through partnership and collaboration within the rural areas of the East Midlands.

We believe that the arts changes peoples lives, builds confidence, self-esteem, increases communication and supports community and personal empowerment.

We are inviting proposals from digital artists to develop a new and innovative online response to Junction Arts' Rural programme in the East Midlands area, showcasing new and existing work, through an interactive online element

Starting points might be an investigation of the interplay between ‘routes’ and ‘roots’, metaphors for ‘connection’, and interactive digital maps, along with taxonomy and hierarchies. We would be interested in commissioning an online interactive which orders and/or connects material and perhaps investigates social media as form. We are very much open to suggestion and being led by the artist as far as the nature and form of the work is concerned.

We are interested in working with artists who will develop new technologies and innovative ways of interacting with communities and connecting with new audiences. Junction Arts would like to create new output alongside and in response to this commission that may include live webcasts, audio trails, and other creative interventions.
