Gerald Raunig's latest book examines the concept and the genealogy of “dividuum”. Locating its roots in Epicurean and Platonic philosophy and referring to its controversial dispute in medieval philosophy, Raunig argues that the term has gained a new relevance in the era of machinic capitalism. Today, it is the formerly individual subject, the user, that turns into a dividuum as she is constantly asking for data and providing data. The old concept of dividuum, therefere, comes to describe what is to replace the individual when the latter breaks down.
