Since there has frequently been discussion on the list about bitcoin and
blockchain technology, I would like to pose a question to the community...

Let's just say that there existed a system that encouraged and allowed for
collaborative and or derivative creation of ebooks. If anyone wants to
publish those ebooks, they need to purchase an ISBN number. If you plan to
publish your writing in multiple formats, you need one ISBN number for each
format. Would it make sense to think about an identification system for
these books that would apply distributed blockchain technology that would
be capable of producing new unique identifiers but also retaining
relationships to other publications in the case of derivative works? If so,
what would be the pros/cons? If not, why not?
