Hello again, I tried without X, same thing. Yes, it is the nvidia chip unfortunately. I noticed the machine does come up, and I can type commands blindly into the console(I can for example reboot). With that said, I don't think it's the backlight not turning up since I tried bringing it up manually to no avail using sysctl -w hw.acpi.acpiout0.brightness=100. Maybe I'm doing something wrong when I bring up the backlight?
