I don't follow "ships with openjdk".  Do you mean "includes a copy of
openjdkN already built for GNU/Linux which assumes some particular set
of Linux libraries"?

I'd use file, ldd, and more.   I find that /usr/pkg/openjdk8-java is a
shell script.
