Yes, if you are using their services, you should expect that. But this discussion was about software unexpectedly abusing their services in special circumstances. And the risc I see is more closer to my network like a hacker having control over some machine on the same cable segment as my modem attacking some of my devices and learning from the secret handshake that they successfully crashed it.
