Qt-apps can be rather picky regarding XDG, I have the following in .xinitrc
to avoid such issues,

mkdir /tmp/${USER}-runtime && chmod -R 0700 /tmp/${USER}-runtime
export XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=/tmp/${USER}-runtime
