There is no reason custom installed software should break when doing an upgrade for typical userland software. E.g. I found an old licensing software on one of my machines that had been carried over from several older versions of the hardware and still worked after an update to 10.0. Only if you manually deinstall shared libraries. The typical case is that the old libs are just left in place and new stuff uses new libs, while old programs continue to use the old libs. Martin
