I've never bothered to use NetBSD to play music, but I'd like to get
the windoze laptop off my desk!

But I've always been confused with what appears to be a plethora of
moving parts to make sound work. It doesn't seem to be as easy as
just-plug-in-the-speakers! Vague memories seem to hint at the user's
need to know "signal routing details" to send the right input to the
right output through the right mixer etc. (For stereo, s/right/left/
above! :-) )

So, is there a audio cookbook for dummies who simply want to play a
.mp4 or .m4a file?

Thanks!
