FWIW, my experience has been that SMART data indicates a problem
_shortly_ before the drive fails (it generally indicates that there are
problems but the drive is still reliable before announcing suddenly
that there are huge problems just before dying).
For myself, when I see that the "Reallocated sector count" starts
being not 0, whatever SMART says, I plan to replace the disk as
rapidly as possible.
