I had this same issue with a Model M clone (the Unicomp Space Saver) and
my Ryzen desktop. Model M keyboards are somewhat infamous for drawing a
lot of power. I plugged it into an older Pentium III running NetBSD
though, and it worked without any issues.
If you can believe it, my "solution" on the Ryzen machine was to get a
powered USB 2.0 hub, connect it to that, and connecting the hub to my
NetBSD tower.
(FWIW, I had the same issue on FreeBSD and Alpine Linux as well. I
suspect it was the motherboard tripping somehow, and not to do with the
OS specifically).
