Hello all,

Nothing is wrong here and I have this working fine. Just curious as to the
behavior and what's happening in lower layers for this.

I have a SONY SMO-F561 MO drive I hooked up to some of my sparc's. I am
using RW disks too (not WORM). I first tried to lay down a disk label and
it errors out upon trying to write the label (bad magic number or
something...)

So pressing on I used "newfs -I /dev/sd1c" to make the FS with no 4.2BSD
disklabel. Worked fine, I am able to read/write/verify files on the disks.

I was just wondering - is there something about MO disks in general - or
something that this drive tells the host via SCSI message that bubbles up
to disklabel to cause this ?

I have a Jaz drive too and I'm pretty sure I was able to disklabel that.
Obviously Jaz disks are really just HDD platters (pure magnetic) whereas MO
is + optical.

Thanks.
