Select the SYSTEM prefs (top cycle gadget)
Select BORDER SIZES (halfway down cycle gadget)
You should see four sliders...
Are the "Top" and "Bottom" values set to more than 2 ???
If they are, this can cause the "nothing in the startup window"
problem.
