It was a short while (Sat, 10 Apr 1999 14:54:53 +1000) since Andrew Bruno mentioned
some stuff...

Hmm... is there any way of finding out your phone number? I'm no
telecoms expert. Maybe there is facility for ISP being dialled into
to send details back to Amiga? The ISP could use CallerID function
and return the info to you. It would need a bit of support from ISPs
then I think.

I meant send a message to a hotmail account which you don't normally
use. I presume most people would use their ISP based email pop server
for general mail but you would have to set-up an extra account just
for the likely event of a theft.

Okay it needs some work. I'll get my mate to explain to me exactly
what he was expecting to happen.

Isn't callerID standard on digital lines now between subscribers home
and the ISP?

Don't know what you mean? You *personally* would have to activate the
theft alarm on your machine. This would have to be done by sending an
e-mail to *your* machine (from somewhee else obviously) that Genesis
would detect and filter out so the theifs would never see it. This
e-mail would have some command in it to start Genesis transmitting
info to your pre-setup Hotmail (or whatever free e-mail service)
account.

Erm not sure what you mean? Is this still valid from what I've added
above??

No - because the current version installed on my system would be
working still! And all that would do is stop internet software - what
about the rest of the applications on the harddrive?

Another idea is I send an email, Genesis intercepts it from Micrdot or
YAM and installs a replacement to LoadWB for instance that just
reboots the machine all the time! But that's notreally security as
how can you get your equipment back?

This is what I thought! That's why I don't think it is that good an
idea. But PC owners will take anything...

Not my idea originally, company is already doing it for PC! Don't
know if they are still going though.

Well I'll get him back to the drawing board. I'd be interested in
your thoughts on the above stuff.
