So if someone logged into your account and used it for hacking you
wouldn't mind the trouble it caused you? What if they used your
account to send illegal email (threatening, racist etc.) and the
police came knocking on your door?

That's right. He ended up with a list of almost 800 passwords that was
then circulated on IRC. Quite frightening really, that every member of
a hacking group has access to your account and all your personal
email.
