Hi Alan,
I don't know about the 8 bit encoding, (does MD have the option to
change this), but if you open the 'New Message' window click on 'PGP &
Specials' at the top there is a box at the bottom which says 'Copy
self?', make sure this is not ticked. Then you will only get one copy
of each new message.
