Theoreticaly you can get 56000 on a 56K modem with a perfect line.  In
practice I almost always get 49333 and very occasionally 51000-ish.

It's all really rather irrelevant because the modem will decide what
speed to use as an optimum and can change it on the fly.  If you are
getting over 42000 on a regular basis its about as good as it gets
for V90 on a "normal" phone line.

For the sake of interest, after disconnecting Genesis load up a
terminal program like AmTerm and type AT&V1 and you get some figures
that characterise the phone line and connection quality.

Neil Bothwick is the expert on this kind of stuff...
