Or am I expecting the impossible? You have to load all the messages in their entirity first. To do this, go to settings/accounts/network/news. I havn't got a clock port either. I tried something in the PCMCIA slot (can't remember what it was now, probably a surf quirrel), and got no increase in speed so I got a refund. It was suggested to me by the people that sold it to me that it was probably because I have an accelerator with very similar specs to your, and the 8030 processor gives me my fastest possible speed. The computer gets clogged up trying to decode images and download more data at the same time, so the only way for more speed is...a zorro and graphics card.
