A long, historical problem with MD. I've just "jumped" from MDII
0.196 to MDII 1.4 (!!), and I always exactly the same problem with
0.196. If you do "check mail" when offline, then you MUST quit and
restart before it will let you check once you are online.
There is an option to "Automatically check state if TCP/IP stack" in
"Network", which may help. I haven't tried yet.
