there's more to it than that.

*Bold* is surrounded by asterisks
_Underlined_ has an underscore each side
/Italic/ is surrounded by slashes (ie these things \ back to front)
#Coloured# is surrounded by hash marks.
If you only use the first symbol, MD2 will display it rather than use
it for styles (and just display the hash, the underscore etc).
All can be seen within the message editor, except italic for some
reason.
