Once you have the list you don't look at it again, the way to operate is to
just join individual newsgroups, and not bother about the list. Just search
on http://www.deja.com for newsgroups.

THOR is fine and easy to use once you get passed the initial "Yikes this
looks like the flightdeck of a Jumbo jet" reaction.
I used it for email as well until recently. The weakness there was it
compressed messages into one big file, lose that one file and you have lost
your email.
