This is because the remote server is (correctly) not echoing your typing.
All you need to do is this: in Amtelnet go to the menus and look at
"Settings/Emulation Tweaking". In this submenu, before you connect, make
sure "Local Echo" and "Return as CR+LF" are turned on. Things should start
working then.
By the way, you can also use the DELE x command to delete mails.
