Ok,
after some elaborate search, I've squashed the CPU consumation
bug for good.
It actually was the "Update user list" method being called on every
iteration of the input loop, instead of only when the timer triggers,
which is the supposed way of operation.
Thanks to everyone who provided detailed info.
Will be fixed in 3.5.
