iirc it was to do with newsgroups with very long names. There seems to
be a limit on what md2 will cope with. I'm not sure wether this was
the name itself or combined with the description, but the most
complete list I have (~34000) has no descriptions - all replaced by ?.
I think the solution may be to download the list separately ify you
can make it available as it is just a simple text file, and edit out
or truncate description from the long lines with e.g. an arexx script.
