Thanks, that did the trick!
Finally, deployment finished fine! I got many messages of the form:
DBIx::Class::Schema::Versioned::upgrade_single_step(): DB version (18)
is lower than the schema version (29). Attempting upgrade.
...but I guess it's OK.
I hope that tomorrow I'll be able to start using ND2.
Now I need to get some sleep...
Thanks everyone,
Nick

I think this is a SNMP::Info issue with Extreme support. Can you test
by
replace the existing Extreme.pm in your SNMP::Info with the attached
Extreme.pm? If it fixes the issue, I'll commit it as a permanent fix
in
SNMP::Info.
Thanks,
Eric

there is no switch in the database which could cause any problem.
I try to discover an extreme switch and get the following errors.
Discovering a cisco switch is working fine. This extreme switch is
discovered well with netdisco 1.3.1
Here what I have done and the output. Can you help me?

At least this is my experience with CentOS 5/6.
As a Netdisco developer I value your feedback very much, but have to
disagree.
I think most people find installing using the instructions in our CPAN
documentation far easier than using packages. Especially since the
packages don't exist ;-) I've had many people tell me that they prefer
this method, as it enables installation and operation of Netdisco
without root privileges (surely a good thing), and because Netdisco ends
up standalone in one directory which can be moved/poked-at/deleted
easily. Our current rapid development cycle is also not very compatible
with the lag induced by package based distribution.
I regret that you had such difficulty, but reading the thread it seems
mostly to have come about from not having a clear understanding of Perl
and Linux system administration. We can help this by improving
documentation.
Unfortunately the documentation you used to begin with was from an old
version of Netdisco 2 - which surprises me as on search.cpan.org and
metacpan.org there is a prominent link to view the latest version. For
example we now suggest installing a compiler, and give the package names
for RPM platforms. The issue you had with PostgreSQL authentication will
also have a documentation hint in the next point release.
If RHEL/CentOS 6 _is_ a problematic platform, and others share this
view, then I encourage readers let the developers know. I'm not ruling
out packages for Netdisco 2 - all volunteer help is welcome! - but for
now it's not on our TODO list.

oliver.

Not to get into a spirited debate on the list, but I actually do prefer the new
method, atleast on Ubuntu, it makes updates super simple, but that's just me,
if only that method worked on ND1 as we still use ND1 pollers

Back to ND2 and I had in front of me this -really nice- login screen but
I couldn't find how to login.
I tried admin/admin, netdisco/netdisco etc. but it didn't work.
I then checked the db and found that there are no users inside.
I found:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=3e898f020f15070748707f98564573a9%40webmail.gorwits.me.uk&forum_name=netdisco-users
...and I noticed that "netdisco-deploy" did not ask me for a default web
user. (I also tried re-running netdisco-deploy, but it did not ask me.)
I followed the directions there (set no_auth to 1) and it worked:
netdisco-deploy now created the guest user. I then logged in and created
successfully another admin user.
Having logged in, I tried to do one discovery as well as 'Discover All"
but it didn't seem to move on; I didn't see any active process on the
server doing such activity and the jobs appear queued for ever, no Start
indication.
How can I fire up those queued jobs?
Thanks,
Nick

Hi, and thanks for your interest and the time you devoted to my case.
I am eager to cooperate in any way I can help the project.
I was referring to my past experiences with CPAN and the effort to keep
a box maintained using its own tools (yum in this case).
In the following replies, I will be providing in some cases a different
view; do not misunderstand me: I am not judging the ways you have chosen
to develop and provide your software. After all, it's your software, and
you are very kind indeed in providing the software and your assistance
to us.
I think most people find installing using the instructions in our CPAN
documentation far easier than using packages. Especially since the
packages don't exist;-)
I have come to the conclusion that using packages should be preferable,
however, if packages exist. :-(
By the way (as a side note), why CPAN did not install SNMP::Info? (I am
still without clue.)
I've had many people tell me that they prefer
this method, as it enables installation and operation of Netdisco
without root privileges (surely a good thing), and because Netdisco ends
up standalone in one directory which can be moved/poked-at/deleted
easily.
That is really very nice; I like how ND2 is contained in one directory!
Note, however, that this is feasible using packages too. As a good
example, I could refer to LTB project which provides OpenLDAP builds for
EL5/6 installed at a custom location , keeping the main OS untouched.
Our current rapid development cycle is also not very compatible
with the lag induced by package based distribution.
That could be solved through the creation of a particular repo or file
archive. I could point to the mondorescue project as an example.
I regret that you had such difficulty, but reading the thread it seems
mostly to have come about from not having a clear understanding of Perl
and Linux system administration. We can help this by improving

I would again want to thank you and the community for your efforts to
provide a great piece of software, develop a totally new version 2, and
help users like us. I may have some years in systems administration, but
I don't have advanced experience with Netdisco components, notably Perl
and postgresql.
However, I am not complaining; I am already a satisfied user of v1 for
years and I welcome and appreciate your efforts for us.
My reports only aim in solving my issues and help in
documenting/polishing the installation procedure for other admins using
similar systems.
Unfortunately the documentation you used to begin with was from an old
version of Netdisco 2 - which surprises me as on search.cpan.org and
metacpan.org there is a prominent link to view the latest version. For

Yep, but the differences are trivial. This was not a key issue.
Note also the need for perl-ExtUtils-MakeMaker package (on RPM platforms) !!
The issue you had with PostgreSQL authentication will
also have a documentation hint in the next point release.
Great.
If RHEL/CentOS 6_is_ a problematic platform, and others share this
view, then I encourage readers let the developers know. I'm not ruling
out packages for Netdisco 2 - all volunteer help is welcome! - but for
now it's not on our TODO list.
You can do it on EL5/6, but you have to manually install SNMP::Info, as
you can see from my reports. If anyone is interested, I can send the RPM
I built, too. (I'll test the installation first, then put it on some
public place for anyone to access.)
Best regards,
Nick
